STEUART PITTMAN : EMERGING BAY AREA ARTIST | Fall 10

STEUART PITTMAN : EMERGING BAY AREA ARTIST

I recently uploaded my newest video piece, "STEUART PITTMAN : EMERGING BAY AREA ARTIST," an exploration in the many pleasures that come along with being an incredibly successful contemporary artist. This piece was made for the 2010 Knox College Alumni Art Exhibit.

One Wall Print Series | Spring 09
I am pleased to announce the belated final installment of the Walls print series. This solitary wall image once again comes courtesy of Chicago's Eight Skin Press. These two-color photopolymer prints feature a faded periwinkle wall defined by a fine, avocado-green line. The wall's beige profile was colored by hand using Prismacolor pencils. Unlike the 3 Walls and 5 Walls varied editions, the 1 Wall series is an identical edition of 20. All works come signed and numbered on 6.5" x 8.5" pieces of off-white, acid-free paper. Once matted, the image becomes 5" square. Please email me to purchase one of the twenty pieces for $20.

How to Build the Perfect Canvas | Winter 08-09
Last semester I took an Experimental Video class with the wonderful Samara Halperin. For my final project I set out to create a fake wood shop instructional video in the tradition of one of my favorite programs, Bob Villa's This Old House. It was an honor to work with a bunch of great people on this project, and I'm deeply indebted to Samara, Scott V., Hannah Ireland, and Brian Caraway, amongst many others. Below you will find excerpts from our enormous bounty of raw footage. Watch and learn as we take you step-by-step toward building the perfect canvas...sort of.

Bob Dylan Broke My Heart | Fall 2008

I recently hosted a screening of D.A. Pennebaker's Dont Look Back (1967) in an attempt to raise awareness about one of my all-time favorite artists, Bob Dylan. The people in attendance helped recreate the sixty-four signs from the most iconic scene of the movie, in which Dylan drops the cards that correspond to lyrics from the song "Subterranean Homesick Blues." With the help of several friends I then recreated the video as an homage to my musical hero. See the finished product below.

Walls Print Series | Summer/Fall 2008
In August I worked with Brooks Johnson of Chicago's Eight Skin Press to create a limited edition of photopolymer prints. We used an antique letter press to make the images, which I've since colored by hand using various paints and pencils. Of the 45 original pieces, 15 are available for purchase through this site. All works come signed and numbered on 10" x 10" pieces of acid-free, Strathmore paper. Please email me to reserve one of the pieces pictured below, from the aptly titled series, 3 Walls and 5 Walls. Each print from the 3 Walls series costs $50 while those from the 5 Walls series cost $75. Fellow students receive an automatic $20 discount.
